Malysia Rule On Friday Prayer
Recently, the Malaysian state of Terengganu enforced a Shariah law (Takzir Enactment 2016) where Muslim men can face up to two years in prison or a fine of RM 3,000 if they miss even one Friday prayer without a valid excuse. In the past, the punishment applied only after three consecutive absences and was lighter.
Similarly, in Johor, all Muslim men must stop business activities during the Friday prayer, and lunch breaks have been extended to allow them to attend.
My question is: From an Islamic perspective, is it correct for a government to impose such punishments for missing Jumu’ah? Or should Friday prayer remain a personal religious duty between a believer and God?
And on base of what hadhit or quran verse they did this rule?
