  • Quran As Primary Source Of Deen

I’m confused about how the Qur’an can be the origin of deen when it keeps referring to events from the Prophet’s life without fully explaining them. Take Surah Anfāl: Allah talks about what happened at Badr, but the Qur’an doesn’t name Badr directly. So how do we even know it’s Badr? If that knowledge comes from outside the Qur’an, then it means the Qur’an isn’t the only source we’re relying on.

People say we get this context from Hadith, but Ghamidi sahib says Hadith can’t add anything new to religion — it can only explain what is already established. If that’s the case, then where exactly does the historical reference come from? If it’s not Hadith, and the Qur’an doesn’t give the full story, then what are we depending on?

I’ve gone through Ghamidi sahib’s books and videos, but I’m still confused. If there’s any specific place where he explains this clearly, I’d appreciate it.

Please read the preamble of Meezan. It says that Deen came from the prophet in two forms Qur’an and Sunnah that is perpetual consensus practices transmitted from generations to generations.

Deen is beliefs and practices which are religious in nature.

Ahadith is the historical record of how the prophet acted upon Deen, his ijtihad, and his biography.

@Irfan76 thansk for replying. Can you please explain the example of surah e anfal and how we know its battle to badar in discussion? Its not mentioned by name in quran. Then from where we have taken this? Can you point to sunnah resources which mention this?

Books of Ahadith and seerah have recorded these historical facts. The Quran refers to them to a reader who already knows about them. The Quran gives enough hints to determine what event it refers to.
