Hadith On Hazrat Fatimah Covering From Head To Toe
. There is a narration in Sunan Abu Dawud:
Narrated Anas ibn Malik: Prophet (ﷺ) brought Fatimah a slave which he donated to her. Fatimah wore a garment which, when she covered her head, did not reach her feet, and when she covered her feet by it, that garment did not reach her head. When the Prophet (ﷺ) saw her struggle, he said: There is no harm to you: Here is only your father and slave. Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)
According to Ghamidi Sahab, for a woman covering from her neckline upto knees is the obligatory act, covering more than that is good but not obligatory. But how is this hadith to be understood then? Because Hazrat Fatimah was trying to cover her entire body (from her entire head to toe) in front of the slave. Why was she trying to do this if covering the entire body isn’t an obligatory act for women and not a merely rewardable act as Ghamidi Sahab suggested?
I have watched his entire Response to 23 Questions – Veil ( Parda) playlist on youtube but did not find any discussion over this hadith. I could not find any other video or discussion of him either where he explained this hadith.
I watched a video of Dr Khaled Abou El Fadl (From 1:46:09 to 2:09:07 mark) where he said he believes this is a forged hadith but his reasoning did not sound too powerful to me because he did not bring forward any problem with the chain of this narration or anything. And that’s the only objection I could find about this hadith on the internet
