  • Working In A Job With Haram Elements Due To Family Responsibility

Posted by Hassaan Adil on January 4, 2026 at 9:57 am

Assalam o Alaikum,I am 24 years old and currently the only earning support for my household, which includes my mother and three sisters. Due to severe financial hardship after my father’s passing, I could not complete my formal education. For some time, my extended family supported us, but that support is no longer sufficient.Recently, I got a job in digital marketing. While this job helps us survive, some of the clients and campaigns involve areas like gambling, forex, and prop trading, which I believe are haram. I do not do this work out of desire or approval — rather, out of necessity and lack of alternatives at the moment. This situation deeply troubles me. I fear earning haram income and especially fear providing such income to my mother. At the same time, leaving the job immediately would put my family in serious difficulty, and I do not want to depend on charity. My question is:In such a situation, where a person is financially responsible for dependents and does not currently have a halal alternative, what is the correct Islamic approach? Is it permissible to continue temporarily while actively seeking a halal option, or is it obligatory to leave immediately regardless of consequences?I sincerely want to earn halal income and live with a clear conscience. Guidance in light of Islamic principles would be greatly appreciated.JazakAllah khair.

Forex trading and prop trading are not haram, unless they sell something prohibited like alcohol. You may need to provide the details to learn whether the business you are dealing with is haram or not.

Islam allows consuming a haram thing to survive, only to the extent of necessity. You do not need to leave the job until you get another one.

Although I confirmed that we only work with liseced companies.

But still you can tell how much of scammers forex brands are for new people.

Deception makes a business or transaction haram.

Now it is your call to evaluate your circumstances, apply the principle of Iztiraar (compulsion), and decide whether you have to carry on the job until you get a halal or you can leave it forthwith.
