  • Meaning Of Sahih Muslim (Hadith# 7207 / 2865)?

1الضَّعِيفُ الَّذِي لاَ زَبْرَ لَهُ“The weak who has no ‘Zabr’ (determination/intelligence).” This refers to those who lack the willpower to avoid evil and simply follow others into sin without thinking.2الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِيكُمْ تَبَعًا لاَ يَبْتَغُونَ أَهْلاً وَلاَ مَالاً“Those who are followers among you, seeking neither family nor wealth.” This describes people who have no higher purpose or responsibility; they are apathetic and drift through life without moral direction.3الْخَائِنُ الَّذِي لاَ يَخْفَى لَهُ طَمَعٌ وَإِنْ دَقَّ إِلاَّ خَانَهُ“The deceiver whose greed is never hidden; even if a thing is small/insignificant, he betrays it.”Literally, someone so consumed by greed that they will cheat even for a “tiny” (daqqa) item.
4رَجُلٌ لاَ يُصْبِحُ وَلاَ يُمْسِي إِلاَّ وَهُوَ يُخَادِعُكَ عَنْ أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ“A man who, morning and evening, does nothing but deceive you regarding your family and your wealth.” This refers to habitual betrayal of trust in the most personal matters.5الْبُخْلُ أَوِ الْكَذِبُ وَالشِّنْظِيرُ الْفَحَّاشُ“The miser (or liar) and the ‘Shinzeer’ who is foul-mouthed.” Shinzeerliterally means someone of bad character or one who is ill-tempered and uses obscene language

In the hadith that mentions “Ahlul-nār khamsah” (five types of people of Hell), one category is described as people who are followers (tabaʿ) and who “do not seek family or wealth.”

At the moment, I don’t want to do a job, mainly because of the lack of decent income sources and long working hours. Instead, I want to start a business, but I don’t have the money yet. I have discussed this with my father, and for now I am waiting.

My question is: does this hadith refer to people who are temporarily unable to establish family or wealth due to economic circumstances and planning, or only to those who completely abandon responsibility and follow others without any moral purpose?

In my situation, does not doing a job for now and waiting for a better opportunity put me in the category of someone who is “not willing to seek family or wealth”?

This refers to those who are habitual followers of evil/sin, so much so that they don’t even bother about family and wealth i.e. things which people choose to gain in life or follow in life. This does not apply to your case.

What kind of habitual evil or sin does this narration refer to? Is it talking about gunah-e-kabira or gunah-e-saghira?

And does it also include habits like addiction to nicotine or caffeine? Since these can become habitual and have harmful effects, would they also fall under this narration?

Although, I haven’t really seen people quitting or giving up everything for nicotine or caffeine
