Assalamu alaikum. I am not sure if posting link of other website/preachers permitted here. If it is breaking your rule please let me know.

I always used to believe that lie is haram.

And I never lie. I usually try not to twist/camouflage the truth. But some fatwas came to my sight where it seems camouflaging the truth is not condemned.

Like one sheikh said if someone doesn’t want to do something but saya he will do it then it is not promise! No sin if he doesn’t do it! And moreover he suggested to use “insha Allah” while saying such statement then it will not be lie!!! But my question is, if I say someone i will do this, he will be in a hope that I will do that. And how it is not a sin to say such lie knowingly? I mean dosen’t the “word of mouth” mean nothing?

If someone camouflages why would one trust him?

Should a muslim be crystal clear in his speech?

    Does islam encourage camoufladging truth????

Like someone is late in office because he woke up late and now does islam recommends that he gives a ambiguous reason for his late? Like “there was a personal problem” and the emplyer would think that he was having family issue! How is this a good characteristics? Rather shouldn’t he speak the truth directly that he woke up late?

And by saying the truth won’t it increase his reliability that this man is a truthful man doesn’t make up stories?

If onw camouflage the truth then why would other people trust him??

    Isn’t it kind of hypocrisy?

In this video he is actually telling to make fake commitment by saying in sha Allah and that will help avoid the sin!!!!!!

Does islam really take lie so lightly??????

The type of lie that Islam and the messengers of God strongly condemn is one that can endanger another person’s life or cause major harm. This includes giving false testimony in court, lying to conceal a truth that would pardon a criminal, or causing someone undue trouble through a false statement. A particularly severe example is the wrongful accusation of a woman of adultery, so serious that even if the accusation is true, multiple witnesses are required by Islamic law. Without them, the accuser is punished instead.

This is considered the absolute red line in Islam, and one must always remain cautious regarding such matters. The “small lies” you mentioned are described by Javed Ghamidi sb as “sadd-e-zariya,” meaning that small, seemingly harmless lies can become a gateway to habitual lying. Over time, this habit can make a person more likely to lie in serious, consequential situations.

Islam advises believers to avoid even minor sins and small traps, as they can lead to major forbidden deeds. One should strive to speak the truth wherever possible, not only to maintain trust but also to purify moral character. If a situation arises where telling the truth might create unnecessary trouble or awkwardness, it is better to remain silent or briefly redirect the conversation rather than resort to lying.
