I am having very hard time in finding any scholar or Imam in our area who believes that taxes can be zakat. According to them, these are 2 separate things and are handled differently. Can you please tell me any other scholars or school of thought who believes in this. @Irfan76

It is only the power of argument that should be the basis of your adopting or rejecting an opinion. If it makes sense to you, adopt it; if not, then reject it.

What a disappointing response brother! Zakat is one of the pillar of our religion and you are telling me to go by my opinion. We don’t go by our opinions in such religious matters, we need clear guidance and when we have questions we look up to scholars or Ullemas. If everyone starts using their opinions in such matters there will be millions of ideas of Islam. We always respected and looked up to Mr Ghamidi’s approach on many matters but your response really is a ‘ turn off’ for me. I was agreeing with the idea of Taxes as Zakat but needed some validation of other Ullemas which I was not able to find it in this matter as compare to on some of other topics or lectures given by Mr Ghamidi. I don’t know how should I proceed now.

    Jazak Allah

Brother in this matter of zakat you should consider yourself in the era when this order was delivered to Mohammad PBUH by GOD , there was no tax system in that era other then fidia which was taken from prisoners , so to build a welfare state GOD ordered to pay taxes in shape of zakat and to run a welfare state where helpless and poor people can be taken care of from this fund and to manage state issues , other sources of running state is maal e ganiemat (treasure won in wars ) that also have a portion of share for poor people ,

So this zakat should be taken by the state not the molvi or madrisa or any other private entities but unfortunately here In Pakistan we do not pay zakat to gov and just pay taxes as per British rule so this happens because of Allah laws are not implemented here , and because of this lawlessness molvi start to collect zakat here , and they opposed the true word of god , it’s hard to find a molvi on this issue ,

But as per my knowledge if you pay zakat to government or any entity which is legally register (proper documentedly )u can adjust this in you annual income so that your tax could be reduced .
