    Assalamu Alaikum,

(I’d appreciate if whoever read’s this share there perspective on this topic)

I wanted to ask about the concept of spiritual connection in Islam. Many people describe their relationship with Allah as something they feel—a sense of closeness, emotional connection, or spiritual presence during Salah and other عبادات. However, in my own experience, I don’t feel that kind of emotional or spiritual “connection.”

I do believe in Allah with full conviction, understand His guidance, and try to live according to Islam in a conscious and balanced way. I pray, fast, and follow my religion without force, and my life feels internally peaceful and grounded. But for me, عبادات feel more like awareness, discipline, and grounding—not an emotional or spiritual experience.

So Is spirituality in Islam supposed to be something that is felt emotionally, or is awareness and understanding sufficient?

Is the feeling of “connection” necessary for strong faith, or can a person be spiritually sound without experiencing it?

Should one try to develop or stimulate this feeling through more acts of worship, or does it emerge naturally over time?

If someone does not feel this connection, does it indicate a نقص (lack) in their Iman, or is it just a difference in temperament?

I’m not asking about temporary emotional highs, but rather a consistent sense of connection that people often describe.

(For me, spirituality feels connected to the soul and consciousness, like they all belong to the same space.

Do you think spirituality naturally emerges when we’re on the right path, or is it something we have to consciously figure out and hold onto?

Also, is it necessary to feel spirituality?

Personally, I’ve grown a lot over the past few months. I feel more peaceful internally, my morals are clearer, and I’m doing well religiously. But I don’t experience that “spiritual feeling” people often talk about.

So I wonder—is spirituality something you’re supposed to feel, or is being the way I am right now already enough?)

I would really appreciate different perspectives on how spirituality is understood and experienced in Islam.
