“Reflections On Saadi’s Narratives And Personal Misunderstanding”
It might be a little difficult to understand because my brain is currently functioning only in chaotic statements.I read Gulistan by Sheikh Saadi, in which many stories about homosexuality are mentioned. In one story, Saadi himself narrates that he also developed an attraction toward a boy; he composed a few couplets praising him, kissed him, and then said that on the hill there lived a hermit. I asked him why he didn’t stay in the city, and he replied that it is a city full of beautiful people, where even elephants can slip—so he had to leave. He kissed and departed. My mind expressed hesitation in accepting this. After the chapter ended, I saw another opinion which said that this was indeed Saadi’s condition regarding his homosexuality. I believed this truth and even told someone about it. Now I am ready to retract my statement in front of the person I told. What should I do? These are the pages from the book.Saadi was a Sufi, which is why this account seems somewhat believable, because Imam Ibn al-Jawzi mentions that some Sufis were involved in homosexuality.
If such an indication does not come from the book, then this is an unfounded accusation, and it is necessary to retract my statement for repentance.
