It is usually thought maghrib ends after the light in the sky disappears which is about 15-20 mins after the sunset. In a recent class with Dr Shehzad Saleem we were told it extends until isha around one hour. This makes sense as isha starts after the twilight fades and accroding to our prayer charts isha starts usually an hour or so after maghrib. But in our daily life it seems that the twilight fades quite fast so isha should start earlier. Is it something to do with sea level and horizon where we usually cant see in cities?

Can someone please confirm that the time for Maghrib lasts until the beginning of Isha, and not 10 to 15 minutes after sunset? And what is the basis for knowing? JazakAllah!

Twilight at horizon lasts for more than an hour and this can be observed with naked eye even in the cities, provided you’re not surrounded by high-rise buildings.
