Is it allowed to say for example ya Muhammad help us or protect us etc -as he is at a higher station
Some scholars apparently allow this- isn’t it clear cut shirk- the same kind that the quraysh did?

It is indeed a polytheistic practice but not the same kind that Quraysh practiced, because Quraysh had adopted polytheism as a religion; Muslims however, do not do so under polytheistic notion.
