    34. In all probability, this is it what is called “Isostasy” in science. This statement of the Qur’an seems to ratify the theory about the mountains that they have emerged from the surface of the earth to balance the dense matter found below the seas. Had this not been the case, the earth would have kept wobbling the way it does during an earthquake. The words used for this in the Qur’an shows that before اَنء the causative lam (ل) is understood to be present in accordance with linguistic considerations. The translation keeps this aspect in mind. This style is the same as: هذا دواء للحمی.

This is Ghamidi sahab’s tafsir of anbiya ayah 30-34.

We also learn in school that mountains come after two tectonic plates push together and afteR a release of pressure build up, one plate shoots up, forming a mountain- and this release of pressure causes and earthquake

You’re referring to how mountains are created and whether they stop earthquakes or not.

But the question should be do they help in achieving any kind of equilibrium or not:

“…For example, under mountain ranges, the crust slumps or bows deeper into the upper mantle than where the land mass is thinner across continental plains. Somewhat akin to how icebergs float in seawater, with more of the mass of larger icebergs below the water than smaller ones, this bowing results in a balance of buoyant forces termed isostasy“.

What was the point of God mentioning this to Arabs who probably didn’t know the 1+1 of geography of this level? In surah naba most of the things that are mentioned are things we can witness easily and directly- this doesn’t seem to be one of them

A sentence can serve both purposes (scientific and literary). As I have mentioned somewhere earlier, it could’ve scientific connotations too, but the message gets delivered in all cases (the scientific understanding of those statements will keep evolving as time and our knowledge progresses)

How Arabs would’ve understood seven skies? of course not scientifically, but definitely they knew the way they see the sky, six other similar skies would exist and there would be similar view of them the way they have a view for their sky. But now we know the manifestation of that in a much better way. Probably in the coming days, it might become even more sophisticated.

Similar is the case with mountains. Mountains as pegs, mountains as providing stability serves a literary purpose (reminds one of God’s creation along with its poetic beauty) and at the same time, it has every capacity to give an Arab some idea of stability, not in geological terms, but to some extent one can get this idea.

Also Ghamidi sahab said that this isostacy is referring to how mountains are made- that’s why I referred to tectonic theory

Anyway- I think I may not be up to date with the latest research- so that’s fine
