    8. This refers to the covenant mentioned in verse five of this sūrah

    There is no covenant in 57:5. Is he referring to alastu birabikum?

    Short answer: yes.

    “The ayah refers to the pretemporal covenant made by God with all of humanity before creation when they were still in Adam’s loins. (How is it that you believe not… if you are believers?)…reflects the broader Qur’ānic argument that everyone has an innate ability to recognize the truth, if they would only follow what is available to them through the intellect and through revelation (al-Nasafi and al-Razi)”

    In Al-Bayan urdu version, there is reference to 5:7 in foot note 8, not 57:5.
