  • Withholding Life Support System Of Terminally Ill Patients

Posted by Shahid Latif on October 23, 2020 at 6:51 am

Ovarian cancer was diagnosed in a patient 6 years ago. Two chemotherapies stopped the progress of disease for some time. Presently her kidneys and lungs have failed. And she is on a ventilator. Continuing to keep her on ventilator will not cure her multiple diseases. She is not likely to survive withdrawal of life support system.

Is it permissable under such conditions to withdraw life support.

These lectures were perhaps privately recorded. We don’t have these lectures available.

And what if someone doesn’t want the treatment because the quality of life falls so drastically low

The principle has been explained in the video above – if there’s a treatment then one should go through it.

And is it fard to treat someone? And can we go ahead with the treatment if the patient doesn’t want it?

If someone doesn’t want treatment, it’s their choice. No one can force them

And we MUST treat them as a doctor. Like how far do we go because it’s life and death? We can’t just 24/7 treat patients
