Al-Ma’idah – 5:33
Arabic
إِنَّمَا جَزَٰٓؤُاْ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَسۡعَوۡنَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَسَادًا أَن يُقَتَّلُوٓاْ أَوۡ يُصَلَّبُوٓاْ أَوۡ تُقَطَّعَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَأَرۡجُلُهُم مِّنۡ خِلَٰفٍ أَوۡ يُنفَوۡاْ مِنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ ذَٰلِكَ لَهُمۡ خِزۡىٌ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِى ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
How do we know if these verses are saying if someone steals you MUST cut of their hands or the MAXIMUM punishment you can give is cut their hands?
