[It is evident from this that the law of retribution is absolutely unbiased. Therefore,]9 those who profess faith in Muhammad and those [before them] who became Jews10 and those who are called Christians11, and Sabaeans12 – whoever among them believes in Allah and in the Last Day and does righteous deeds – shall be rewarded by their Lord and [in His gracious presence] they shall have nothing to fear nor shall they grieve [there].13 (62)

Why does Ghamidi sahab add ‘before them’ in brackets? Is it due to the overall usul that a Jew in the time of prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم who rejects the message cannot attain salvation?

It’s natural with every language that some words are implied in sentences and are clear from the context. When translating a text into another language, the translator has to add certain words in order to drive the meaning across.

So does it mean that this ayah only refers to Jews and Christians and Sabieans who had that religion BEFORE Muhammad SAW, or does it apply today as well because the ayah 3:85 ‘Sahih International: And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers’ otherwise seems to be contradictory
