Quran 9:10-13 Reason For The Directive Of War
Posted by A Hasan on October 28, 2020 at 11:54 pmAt-Taubah – 9:13
This ayah hints towards the reason for the fighting verse being due to the breaking of a treaty rather than itmam e hujjah.
Was the directive to kill because of itmam e hujjah or breaking the treaty since 9:6 also makes it seem as though itmam e hujjah wasn’t completed

At-Taubah – 9:10
This has the same implication

At-Taubah – 9:12

How does a coherent reading of surah 9 ayat 1 to 15 support the narrative that the hukm to kill was for knowingly disbelieving? The text seems clear that other reasons are given, repeatedly, for the hukm to kill.

Contributor October 29, 2020 at 12:51 amYes- the reason of ‘for breaking their oath’ is repeated over and over again. And the purpose is not to kill them as the purpose of the directive of God’s punishment usually is- it’s just to make them desist. Also 9:6 makes it seem that the balagha was not completed yet

It may well be possible that after a long period of preaching and pursuasion some aspect still remains in the conclusive communication of the truth. Hence, if any one of these people need asylum to hear and understand what was being presented to them, Muslims must give him this respite and after reciting and making him understand the word of God transport him to his place of safety so that he can calmly reflect and decide whether he has to accept Islam or die. After this, obviously he too will have to face the same directive that is mentioned earlier.
this is Ghamidi sahabs tafsir of 9:6. This kind of hints that itmam e hujjat wasn’t completed- the people didn’t even know the message- the balagh as not done- so how would the punishment even after four months be justified?
@faisalharoon I think you can delete the other conversation as it would be better if we also discuss 9:6 here

The directives in chapter 9 of the Quran are discussed at length in these videos. You can also read up the chapter on jihad in Ghamidi sahab’s book Meezan, or it’s English translation, Islam – A Comprehensive Introduction.
