All the places in the Quran that refer to past nations, there is a trend of them not accepting the Akhirah. It seems like it is very hard for their intellect to comprehend. Or when they give reasons like ‘how is it possible for us to revive again when our bones turn to dust’ they are simply putting up an excuse to deny when in reality they easily accept the idea?

It is a stupid denial. An absurd one. They believe God created this world already- so recreation, using their logic, should be easier, not harder or improbable

So this means that they really couldn’t absorb the possibility of Akhirah? But why? Why don’t we come across such people now who deny Akhirah for this very reason?

Because they were stubborn and were trying to grasp at any straws to stay on the religion of their forefathers. I’m sure if you try and give reason to a devout Hindu he will give similar contradictory statements

Yes so in their hearts they could accept it. Like they did find the idea of it rational. But because they had to deny it just for the sake of denying, so they gave these lame excuses.

      Have I understood it correctly?

That’s what I have understood too. Some may have also been made dead dumb and blind

We DO come across such people today who are in denial. In fact, they deny everything including human free will because they want to deny the existence of God and the day of judgement. In today’s terminology they’re known as the new atheists.

Yes but those people did seem to believe in God. Then how does it make sense for them to believe in God but not the Akhirah?

Edit (those belonging to the previous nations).

It doesn’t make sense for them to deny it.

They are making an irrational argument that God points out the flaw in and tells us they do this because the way don’t want to abandon the religion of their forefathers

There are those that exist even today who believe in a Creator as the first mover, however, they don’t believe in any accountability or afterlife. You can lookup the concept of God held by Spinoza, Einstein, etc. In the world of philosophy you will find every shade of atheism.
