Four rakats at the time of Zuhr are compulsory – when we offer them we get rewarded, and if we don’t, we’ll be questioned on the day of judgement.

Anything additional is optional – if we offer it we’ll be rewarded, but if we don’t we will not be questioned.

The compulsory rakats are as follows. If we do not offer any additional rakats for the rest of our lives, we won’t be questioned on the day of judgement.

    • Fajr – 2 rakats
    • Zurh – 4 rakats
    • Asr – 4 rakats
    • Maghrib – 3 rakats
    • Isha – 4 rakats

Thank you for the information about obligatory prayers

But my question was about the Sunnah prayers which is categorised as sunat-e-muaqdah and sunnat -e- ghair muaqidah which can be left over and which should we pray

So again which rakaat e sunnah is needed to pray at time of zuhur.

For e.g Mr. Ghamidi said in one of his lecture that holy prophet PBUH always used to say 6 rakaats at time of ishaa prayer 4 farz 2 sunnat was it that 2 sunnah were also sunnah e muaqidah? Or ghair muaqidah?

      Regards

Sunat-e-muaqdah and sunnat-e-ghair muaqidah are terminology used by Hanafi madhab. Prophet Muhammad SAW never categorized salat as such.

In the religion that we have received from Muhammad SAW there are only fard (obligatory) and nafil (non-obligatory) salat. In fact every worship ritual is offered as either fard or nafil.

Zuhr has 4 rakats of obligatory salat. The rest are non-obligatory as a described above.

Fard means obligatory, and those are the compulsory ones.

Once Ghamdi sahib said that there is no record reference for 4 sunnah In esha prayer that our prophet used to pray . I want to ask that there is any work on it that how many rakats our prophet use to pray for example 6 in isha , want to know same for other prayers.

      (1) Before the Prayer:

Before the fajr prayer, the Prophet (sws) would generally offer two light rakat.

Hafsah (rta) says that he would pray these rakat as soon as the time of fajr would begin. Aishah (rta) says that she never saw him more punctual than in offering these rakat. She has also narrated from the Prophet (sws): “These rakat of fajr are better than this world and everything it has.

Before the zuhr prayer, he would sometimes pray two rakat and sometimes four.

Before the maghrib prayer, the Prophet (sws) himself, in all probability, never offered any rakat, but he urged others to offer them if God provides them with the will and opportunity. Consequently, it has been narrated that in his lifetime, the Companions (rta) would be vigilant in offering these rakat.

      (2) After the Prayer:

The Prophets routine was to offer two rakat at home once he returned from the mosque after praying zuhr, maghrib and isha. He followed a similar routine after the Friday prayer. A narrative from Abu Hurayrah (rta) says that the Prophet (sws) asked people to pray four rakat also after the Friday prayer. Similarly, there are narratives which depict the blessings of praying four rakat after the zuhr prayer.

Of the rakat which are offered before and after prayers, the Prophet (sws) is reported to have said that those who adhere to offering two rakat of fajr, six of zuhr, two each of maghrib and isha, the Almighty will make for them a house in Paradise.

      (3) At the time of Chasht:

In mid-morning (chasht) too, the Prophet (sws) urged people to offer two rakat. He has said: “As soon as morning comes, charity becomes obligatory upon each of your joints. If a person wants to do it [then he should know that] every word of tasbih is charity, every takbir is charity, urging others to do a pious deed is charity, stopping others from bad deeds is charity and if two rak‘at are offered in mid-morning, then they suffice for all these.”

However, one cannot be certain whether the Prophet (sws) offered this prayer since the narratives in this regard are contradictory.
