Multiverse And Cosmological Argument
Posted by Ahsan on November 14, 2020 at 5:31 pm(From Muslim vs Atheist perspective)
Multiverse theory gives an alternative explanation to begining of our universe and fine tuning of physical laws.
As mentioned in Quran 65:12, there are seven planets like earth which can be used as a Quranic evidence for multiverse theory.
Ghazali’s Kalam cosmological argument has proved to be very promising against atheist. Whatever, argument has been thrown against kalam argument breakdown either in 1st or second premises.
My Question is if I accept quranic interpretation of multiverse, how can i reconcile Kalam argument with Quranic interpretation as muslim against atheist$ohail T@hir replied 4 years, 1 month ago 4 Members · 15 Replies -

1) Every thing which has a beginining must have a cause
2) If universe has a begining, it must have a cause
3) Since we exist, there can never be infinite regress of causes. (Philosophicalargument for begining of universe). Empirical evidence of universe begining is big bang.

In Modern times, this argument has modified to fit modern sciences but gist remain the same

Moderator November 15, 2020 at 2:15 pmBigbang theory is outcome of friedmans model in 20th century.
Ghazali argument was finitude of past

Moderator November 15, 2020 at 11:28 pmInfinite regress of casuality is Ghazali argument which concludes finitude of past

Moderator November 16, 2020 at 5:24 pmCausality: Nothing comes from nothing. I understand Ghazali would limit causation to explain the universe because to him infinite regress is illogical and absurb idea but then he would not explain what caused God? If you are going to suggest God is timeless, has no beginning etc. etc. “what is the source of this knowledge”? You better not get into scriptures to define God.
My point: Kalam’s cosmological argument (all variants) is “fiction” – It has no bases to stop/limit causation to universe only and treat the “primary mover” differently.

Moderator November 15, 2020 at 1:45 pmIf someone chooses to ignore all the empirical evidence – both internal and external to our own existence, our faculty of reason and rationality that’s screaming that everything around us is in fact created, as well as traces in all of the known history, then no cosmological argument will stand in their way of denial of God.
If one decides to dig deeper into atheism, he will very soon find out that it stands on very thin ice. Majority of physicalist / materialist theories stand on pure imagination. Quran, on the other hand, makes it’s case on the basis of very strong evidence.
There’s no harm in studying the cosmological argument, or any other kalam / philosophical theories, but all of these have been strongly criticized by other philosophical ideas. Neither has anything conclusive ever come out of these arguments, nor is there any hope.

Generally, atheist think they are rational and very intelligent as compared to religious people. In my own experience, kalam cosmological argument has been very effective in levelling the field as what ever critism they do, it can be returned to them effectively.
However multiveese theory presents a little challenge for muslims as there is quranic verse which support this theory. Without it I know how to critisize the theory

Contributor November 15, 2020 at 2:42 pmThe first step is to define rationality. Does rationality mean denial of God then who came up with that idea. If atheists came up with that then that is a bias and a prejudice. Why is my prejudice for God wrong and their prejudice against God right. Who decided that?
Then we can quote the number of discoveries made by believers, the inventions by believers. That shows an intellect. It is proof against believers being irrational. If irrationality can produce sciences then rationality is useless for practical purposes.
