Symbolic Expressions In Quran
Can we take the concept of hell and heaven metaphorically for an unknown state of suffering and peace? Because It is very human to think about fire for wrong doers and garden for pious people from God. Creator should be beyond our limitations of thinking.

Metaphorical state of peace and suffering in this life or after life?
If you mean afterlife then we cannot comprehend what it will be like. Allah has told in the language through which we can understand and get idea about the place.
From Quran it doesnot seem an abstract idea either. Its going to be a real place after day of judgment. -
