    Al-Qamar – 54:19

    Arabic

    إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحًا صَرۡصَرًا فِى يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٍ مُّسۡتَمِرٍّ

    Al-Haqqah – 69:7

    Arabic

    سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

    This is also shown by some people to imply that there is a contradiction- how many days did the winds of the nation of Aad face? Was it one day or 8?

    The storm lasted for seven nights and eight days as stated in Quran verse 69:7. In verse 54:19 God is simply highlighting that how unfortunate the day was for the people of Ad when He decided to punish them as a result of their ignoring His warnings.

    اِنَّاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيۡحًا صَرۡصَرًا فِىۡ يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٍ مُّسۡتَمِرٍّۙ‏ 

    We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune.

    Some very weak traditions also have been cited to support this view, which have further strengthened the idea that this day is ill-omened. For example, there is Ibn Marduyah and Khatib al-Baghdadi’s tradition that the last Wednesday of the month is ill-omened, the ill-omen of which is endless. Ibn Jauzi regards this tradition as fabricated and Ibn Rajab as unauthentic. Hafiz Sakhavi says that all the methods through which this tradition has been reported, are weak.

    Some narrations in this context are weak, others fabricated. Understood. But what does this word نَحۡسٍ imply?

    How could a day/time be unfortunate? Considering the wordings of this Hadith especially;

    Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah Almighty said: The son of Adam abuses me. He curses time and I am time, for in my hand are the night and day.”

    The use of words like ‘نَحۡسٍ‘ as mentioned in (54:19) or ‘الۡبُقۡعَۃِ الۡمُبٰرَکَۃِ‘ as mentioned in (28:30) do not come as a general principle of declaring a day or any place cursed or blessed without any context. They all have certain schematics attached to it related to God’s overall scheme of things. For example, the day nation of ‘Aad’ were destroyed, it was not inherently a cursed day, but became cursed because of God’s wrath that came down on them because of their ‘sarkashi’ and it ended when they were all destroyed. It doesn’t mean that specific day will stay cursed till perpetuity.

    Same is the same with region of Tur that God chose to spoke to Prophet Moses (sws). Calling it a blessed patch again has to do with the overall scheme of God and as long as it remained like this, it stayed a blessed chosen place. But it as soon as the scheme of things related to Tur ended and changed, it lost its same status as being blessed and has nothing to do with being a blessed place till perpetuity. If you see things with this perspective, then I hope it will make some sense.

    Regarding the narration you posted about time (zamana), the following commentary of Ghamidi Sahab would be very helpful in understanding its meaning and its relationship with our time.
