  Why Is Jacob Called Israel?

  According to the bible, in Genesis 32:22-25, it talks about Jacob wrestling with God (some say an angel) and then from henceforth his name was Israel. What is the purpose of this? Does Israel mean something special?

  Israel was a nick name for Jacob / Yaqoob AS.

    Yes but was it God assigned as the bible suggests or was it a human assigned nickname?
