  • What Is The Definition Of Sect In Quran

What did Allah prohibit in Quran, when Quran talks about sects? Does it talk about hating other school of thoughts? If that is the definition of sect, the sect is a relative term and sects may or may not exist in Islam. Is this true?

Which verses specifically are you referring to?

It is a general question regarding Quran’s definition of sects. There are too many references. Some specifically talk about sects, others about division. Here are a few examples.

      3:105

      6:65

      6:159

      9:107

      15:90

      30:32

      42:14

The reason I asked was because these terms are used in at least two different meanings in the Quran.

When referring to the polytheists, it’s referring to how they had deviated from the true concept of monotheism and created many different groups, each one with it’s own god.

When referring to the people of the book, it’s referring to how they rebelled and denied messengers of God, creating divisions amongst themselves.

      Please confirm…

then based on the two definitions you mentioned, within the believers of one god (Allah), Quran and followers of prophet Muhammad, there are no sects at this time.

I’m not sure – I just gave you a generic answer to a generic question.

    Thank you.

Then to my understading a sect is any group of follower of Abrahamic religion

    1. Diverting from Islamic monotheism to polytheism

    2. Creating a different god than Allah.

    3. People denying later prophets of Allah.

I will ask Ghamidi Sahib if he can further expand on this.
