  • Praying On The Plane

Most of the time it is perfectly possible to stand up but you would have to do sajda and ruku sitting down. However, some airlines say to sit down for the whole prayer. Do we just follow their advice or should we stand for qiyamah then sit for the rest of the prayer?

Also would it be ok, because of the time differences and calculation issues, to just, when you get at your destination, pray all the salah you missed?

When we buy a plane ticket, we are obligated by the terms and conditions to abide by the airline rules. If the airline doesn’t allow standing up while praying then we should sit and pray.

If there’s difficulty in determining the salah time due to the time difference, one can do a personal ijtihad to pray at a more suitable time. However, I find it unnecessary. We can always pray according to our departure or destination time zone.

Nowadays I think there are also apps that tell you what time in your flight according to the area you’re flying over the prayer time is. I found ‘Halal Trip’ https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/halal-trip-food-travel-prayer/id680194589

Yes of course. When there’s a will there’s a way!

Can a person pray once he reaches the destination by combining all the prayers?

Prayers need to be offered on time unless there’s some undue difficulty.

If a person has to take a flight after Zuhr, can he offer Namaz by combining Zuhr and Asr before taking flight ,or is he obliged to perform remaining prayers in a plane?

In difficult situations one can combine prayers, shorten them, pray while sitting, walking, or even laying down.

So it is left to an individual what he/she opts for ,right?

      This is what I’ve understood:-👇🏻

Let’s say the flight is for 24 hours. Now he can sit and pray and can also add and shorten prayers at the same time, but he doesn’t have the option to choose and pray all the prayers together once he reaches the destination.

It is upto the individual to decide what constitutes “undue difficulty” for him.

It is encouraged to pray on time, but if that’s not possible, one can combine his prayers upon reaching the destination, that is fine as well.
