Is Watching Porn Haram 2?
Posted by A Hasan on February 5, 2021 at 2:06 pmFollow up from this.In ayah 7:33, God makes it clear that obvious and hidden shamelessness is haraam. What is hidden shamelessness if not things like porn?Is it then haraam to spy on someone showering? The same ruling would apply surely. It doesn’t make sense.

Is Watching Porn Haram 2?

Member February 7, 2021 at 8:47 pmI agree with you Shoaib. Based on holistic view of Allah’s message it seems Haram (forbidden). It would perhaps not be extremely serious sin, but may make somone insensitive to such things and drive them to acts that may earn serious sins.

Member February 9, 2021 at 9:05 pmAssalam u Alaikum.Shoaib bhai,I think watching someone naked in shower would include in violating one’s rights mentioned in Surah Araf verse 33 while on porn the judgement would be based on lowering one’s gaze.

Member February 9, 2021 at 9:11 pmAllah has mentioned in Surah Nur and specifically mentioned Momineen that you all should lower gaze,so I think if Allah commands us something it automatically means He expects us to do that!I believe modesty in one’s gaze should always be there wether one is watching some digital content or is in the actual world!

Member February 9, 2021 at 10:41 pmUmair, there may be slight difference in looking at a live person with certain impure thoughts and making person uncomfortable, but digital contents are more of an imaginary nonphysical representation. Perhaps digital contents may be a lesser sin, but still a path towards bigger sins.

Respected brothers I think this point needs to be clarified which I too have difficulty in explaining to others and also the context about H Muhammad Saw and Quran e Pak itself ordering men and women to lower one’s gazes. The confusion gets created when you say it as a Sadd e Zariya which means one will not be held accountable if one stay clear from sexual interactions with another but does this.
Thanks

Moderator February 13, 2021 at 8:57 amAccording to Quran, real crime is zina. Surah noor tell us about the punishment for it.
However, Quran advise to lower gaze to avoid temptation. Because it may lead to futher steps towards actual sin.
Quran donot define any punishment for gazing. One has to be self accountable and sensitive about Quranic advices.-

Member February 13, 2021 at 11:44 amBrother Ahsan. So it is established and normally know that both consentual and non consentual physical relationship between unmarried singles or married individuals outside of marriage is Zina in the sense of Islam.
Many of us wanted to know and the debate was if watching porn is a sinful act and a person ends up earning sins. I see mixed opinion in the conversations above. Please provide your opinion on this.

I agree with your opinion that it will be a lesser sin to watch blue movies.
However, my opinion is slighlty different as I consider blue movies haram under classification of hidden fawahish.
I think like that because of context of surah araf verse 20-26 which tell that exposing body part is work of devil. -

Haram means prohibited and if you do prohibited acts, that is a sinful act, but may not be a crime in Islam. If my understanding is correct, then no need to respond.

I am bit confused, if watching pornographi, which contains zina, counts as a minor sin, then what is watching nudity considered as. The thing is nudes (pitcuers containing nudity) does not consist of people commiting zina, while pornographi does, and if pronographi is considered as a minor sin then what is watching nudity counted as?

Moderator March 6, 2022 at 1:15 pmPlease don’t allow the terminology of major and minor cause any confusion. Minor sins are still sins that can very easily lead to major sins. Also in certain instances they can be viewed by God as rebellion which is a major sin.
There are only two categories of sins: major and minor. Major sins are unforgivable, while the minor sins may be forgiven depending upon the circumstances and repentance.
For details about major sins please refer to:

Member March 9, 2022 at 5:21 amBut Faisal bahi, i do not understand what this means: Watching porn in private is not haram, however, it’s still immoral and should be avoided-from Is Watching Porn Haraam 1.
Can you please explain what this means. Does it mean that porn is halal but still unpure to commit?
-
Umair Ahmed
Member March 9, 2022 at 6:27 amBrother the theme here to understand is that it doesn’t comes under “Major Sin” but repetitively watching it,will be considered as a rebellious act which in itself is wrong. For better understanding please watch this video:

Member March 14, 2022 at 4:48 amThankyou. As Umer Qureshi has explained ” The word فَوَاحِشَ comprehensively includes exposing the private parts before others, spreading details of sexual nature or fornication. Therefore, any action or any talk which involves such acts/discussion is to be considered as prohibited.” So wouldn’t porn fall under the Ayah
Say, “My Lord has only forbidden open and secret indecencies, sinfulness, unjust aggression, associating ˹others˺ with Allah ˹in worship˺—a practice He has never authorized—and attributing to Allah what you do not know.”
So wouldn’t it fall under the Ayah and becomes mutlaqan haram?
Because:
O children of Adam! Do not let Satan deceive you as he tempted your parents out of Paradise and caused their cover to be removed in order to expose their nakedness. Surely he and his soldiers watch you from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils allies of those who disbelieve.
Because in the context also God talked about “exposing nakedness” which happens in porn (if i am doing the right interpretation).
So the question is, wouldn’t it become mutlaqan haram under these Ayaat?

Moderator March 14, 2022 at 7:58 amI and Faisal Sahab have already responded to this point in the following thread:
There is a difference in actually involved in such an act and watching such an act. For a person watching it, he cannot be equated with the person actually committing it.

Member April 9, 2023 at 10:19 pmIt’s haram. If you make that mistake then ask for forgiveness from Allah sawt and ensure you won’t repeat that mistake.

Muhammad Sami ud-Din
Member April 10, 2023 at 1:30 pmThe term Fawahish includes,
- Adultery/Fornication
- Rape
- Homosexuality
- Bestiality
- Exposure of Private parts, before others.
- Public revelation of sexual relations (even with one’s spouse) [includes the production of pornography. ]
- Sexual abuse
And all other sins like above mentioned crimes, whether revealed or hidden.
By watching pornography(even if it is not getting in the line of Sadd-i Zariya) one is not himself engaging in adultery/fornication, but, is engaging in voyeurism (gaining sexual pleasure from watching others), which would be highly discouraged (Makruh Tahrimi), if one is not involved in it in every way.
However, Pornography could be regarded explicitly forbidden on other basis, as it causes many harms and works much like drugs.
Allah (may his glory be glorified) says in the Glorious Qur’an, “Do not let your own hands throw you into destruction.” (Q 2:195)
Our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There should be no harming or reciprocating harm.”
The dangerous effects of watching pornography, includes,
- Laziness
- Losing hope and motivation to achieve goals and passions of your life
- Erectile dysfunction
- Demeans and objectifying the women in your eyes
- Less concentration
- Brain damage
And many more.
(Most of the credit goes to for explaining these disasters:- iimatheen – YouTube)
And lastly pornography never remains “just once”, it always becomes an serious addiction, it could also change your sexual orientation and could make you have the fetishtic disorders. And it would definitely make you crave for the most serious crime, which is ‘Fahash ‘.
JazakAllah.

Member October 6, 2023 at 3:34 pmI don’t know if it is haram or discouraged but it certainly destroys libido and sexual attraction towards woman + it causes erectile dysfunction + you will not find the satisfaction with your wife + it destroys your brain and you will not be able to enjoy normal life activities + it destroys your nafs and causes impurity in it that despite knowing Allah is watching you see things like these. If you have ever been a porn addict and you stop doing so, you will see a huge change which does take some time but it is gradual and you will find women way more attractive and opposite of the damages I mentioned. Offer prayer with full attention and you will be able to get rid of it, Inshallah. You will find it very resisting to watch it when you know Allah is watching you and knowing that shaitan is asking you to watch it so you know whose path you should follow, I mean when you think to yourself that you will be following shaitan’s path and guidance if you watch porn, you will absolutely not want to indulge in such activities
