Referring to Ghamidi Sahib’s explanation regarding Allah’s promise of providing sustenance and Allah asking people not to kill children due to lack of food, doesn’t make sense. Perhaps there is a better answer.

Ghamidi Sahib states that it is injustice caused by people’s action that give rise to inequality in food distribution; otherwise there is plenty of food available in the World.

That is true, but it seems like forced fit answer stating that Allah’s promise is helpless against human actions. First Allah knew the future so why would he make such promise that won’t work or it is not practical. Secondly if people kill children it is not based on mere promise, but due to real suffering from chronic hunger.

So my question is not whether killing is right or wrong, but the interpretation of Allah’s promise seems incorrect. There must be a better explanation.

There’s no promise in Quran verse 17:31. The verse is ordaining to not kill children out of fear of poverty because it’s the same God who provides for them as the one who provides for you.

Certain translators have mistranslated it as a promise but a lot of them have correctly translated it as a statement of claim. These include Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, Dr. Mustafa Khattab, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, Shabbir Ahmed, Umm Muhammad (Sahih International), and Abdul Majid Daryabadi, just to name a few.

      Thanks Faisal.

Very hard test for those who go through this. May Allah not put people through this test.

Choice between seeing their children suffering for a long time and go through slow death vs. taking unimaginably difficult decision of killing children to alleviate their pain.

In life a lot of hard choices can be avoided with proper planning and timely decisions. There’s no restriction in Islam about family planning. In case of an accident when there are no means to raise a child, even an early term abortion can be done. There’s no reason to wait till the end and then make a difficult decision or to bring a child to this world and watch him suffer.

That is true Faisal. I am not advocating killing, but just empathizing with parents who go through this dilemma. Sometimes this dilemma occurs later in the life of children, such as, war and famine in Yemen or Somalia, etc.
