Do we have any evidence either way? The Quran seems to say in surah duha that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was misguided/lost.
Does it really make a difference?

No Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not commit shirk as proven by ijma of all Muslim scholars ever.
