Al-Bayan Surah Qalam Garden Story
This is not the mention of any incident. In the Arabic language parables are mentioned in such a way. The defining particle alif lām in them or demonstrative nouns like الَّذِي and الّتِي also signify the portrayal of a situation. Hence, there is no need to search for the incident of a particular orchard and its owners in history books.
Al-Qalam – 68:17
Arabic
إِنَّا بَلَوۡنَٰهُمۡ كَمَا بَلَوۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ إِذۡ أَقۡسَمُواْ لَيَصۡرِمُنَّهَا مُصۡبِحِينَ
I don’t get why Ghamidi sahab says this wasn’t a real incident. Allah didn’t say ضرب الله مثلا الذين كانوا في الجنة… the phrasing seems to indicate a real situation especially in the next few verses:
Al-Qalam – 68:19
Arabic
فَطَافَ عَلَيۡهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمۡ نَآئِمُونَ
I can understand this though for the parable in Surah Baqarah مثل الذي استوقد نارا because the word مثل is used etc. But why is this passage in surah qalam taken differently?
