Can I tell my Hindu friends that…Allah is the standard Arabic word for God and is used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews as well as by Muslims?can I post this thing in facebook as well?

Please verify… It’s okay to tell them this if they don’t know what Islam is or should I just recommend them to read Quran

It is true that Arabs used to call God as Allah, but posting something like this will bring more questions for you than it answers. So its always better to offer them Quran to read by themselves. In the context of your question, the following thread is helpful:
