Assalam u Alaikum
Not sure if such disfiguration of the body may fall under a Quranic prohibition. These issues can be tricky due to having a subjective element. A practice that may be considered gross and a display of self-harm by a majority of persons or cultures may be considered normal and acceptable by a tribal or a small town minority in certain parts of the world.
Ideally, each case ought to be viewed on its merit in light of all variables. However, such a practice may generally be disliked or discouraged in accordance with 6:141 which stresses maintaining balance in life by instructing to avoid extravagance because “… surely He [Allah] does not love the extravagant”.
This verse, read in its entirety, has a different context but its concluding message impresses upon a universal (or general) principle of avoiding excessive and unreasonable behaviour.
Allah knows best.
