It could possibly be a metaphoric description of the oil & gas era of the human history that is about to end now. It’s hard to imagine a better way to explain the significance of the change the oil discovery has brought about on Earth in a few lines other than as ‘the beast of the earth’.
Thats my own view – i am happy to discuss it further.
