Marriage Announcement On Social Media
I have heard, In Islam marriage occurs when two individuals announce it. My question is if two individuals decide among each other that they are married keeping Allah swt as witness and just post on social media publicly that they are married from this specific day, does that count as marriage? Thank you!!

The essential requirements of a nikah consist of consent of the bride and the groom, mahar, and a public announcement.
Announcement means that the couple is publicly known as husband and wife. Whatever the norm of the society is for such public announcement, it should be acceptable. However, if the alternative means is used just to fool others then there might be unacceptable moral implications. It’s best that a scholar be consulted offline with details of the situation so that a proper advice can be given.

In addition to what Faisal sb has said, Govt require husband and wife to sign some documents and registration. So this has also to be done.
