According to the verse mentioned below those who neglect Salat they will enter Hell. So my question is that why would Allah want to punish those who don’t pray? I mean isn’t it against his mercifulness? Punishment for adultery, murder, rape, robbery, barbarism, and other inhumane acts is quite understandable but punishment for salat! Why?

They will be asked, “What has caused you to enter Hell?” They will say, “We were not of those who used to offer the prayer, nor did we feed the poor; and we used to talk falsehood (all that which God hated) with vain talkers and we used to belie the Day of Recompense, until there came to us (the death) that is certain.” (Sura Muddassir: Ayat 42-47).

From my understanding through Ghamidi Sahab is that: Eternal hellfire punishment is for kafir. Someone that intentionally reject the truth after Itmam-e-Hujjat (truth made clear upon him by Rasool). In the quoted verse, verse talks about kafir by these words “we used to belie the Day of Recompense”

It is not a punishment for Salah or any individual sins mentioned in the verse like not feeding the poor or talking falsehood.

However since people during the time of Prophet PBUH were under special Itmam-e-Hujjat, anyone who was intentionally neglecting Salah was committing kufr. Therefore there was a chance a Muslim back then go could face Allah’s judgment both during time of Messenger PBUH and in Hereafter as eternal punishment.

However nowadays, we don’t know if a Muslim understand or is even convinced by his religion. If he is in some mistake that causes him to neglect Salah then Allah will not hold him accountable until he is made aware and his mistake has been corrected. Nor is there any blame on any well-intentional Muslim that may have missed prayer by mistake.

Now the question is. What is the punishment for intentionally missing prayer? According to Ghamidi Sahab, there is no punishment known for it. It is considered a serious sin if done intentionally and that Allah will decide on Day of Judgment.

If there is any mistake in my explanation, please feel free to correct me or make additions.

[They think that since the Day of Judgement has not come yet, therefore the news of its arrival is just a fallacy]. Certainly not! the moon bears witness and the night also when it turned its back and the morning when it shines forth that [similarly in this world everything gradually reaches its end; so O People!] This is from among the great matters narrated to warn man. For every person who wants to advance forward [to accept it] or wants to turn away [from it after denying it]. [Remember! On that Day] every soul shall be [held] in pledge for its deeds except the people of the right hand. They will be in gardens inquiring after these wrongdoers. They will ask them ‘What has brought you into Hell?’ They will reply `Indeed, we were not among those who prayed nor did we feed the poor. And we used to quibble with these quibblers and used to deny this Day of Reckoning [44] till there came to us this moment of certainty . (Quran 74:32-47)
