The following translation of the verse goes against most other translations, but that doesn’t make it wrong. It may be the only correct translation.

Need to know why this translation is absolutely not possible.

Husbands have charge of their wives with the wealth God has given to some over others, and with what they spend out of their wealth. Righteous wives are truly devout, and they guard what God has ordained them to guard in their husbands’ absence. If you have reason to fear ill-will from your wives, remind them of the teachings of God, then ignore them when you go to bed, then depart away from them. If they obey you, do not seek to harm them. God is most high and great.

In Ghamidi sahab’s discourse, if the meaning of a verse is clear in its context according to the language then there’s no room for anything further.

Quran verse 4:34 has been explained in detail in the following thread:

    وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ صِدۡقࣰا وَعَدۡلࣰاۚ لَّا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ﴿ ١١٥ ﴾

    • Muhammad Junagarhi:

آپ کے رب کا کلام سچائی اور انصاف کے اعتبار سے کامل ہے، اس کے کلام کا کوئی بدلنے واﻻ نہیں اور وه خوب سننے واﻻ خوب جاننے واﻻ ہے (115)

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

The Word of your Lord has been perfected in truth and justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearing, All- Knowing. (115)

    • Sahih International:

And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. (115)

    • English Transliteration:

Watammat kalimatu rabbika sidqanwaAAadlan la mubaddila likalimatihi wahuwa assameeAAualAAaleem (115)

    Al-An’am, Ayah 115

Doesn’t matter there are 5000 different languages translations of Quran.

Allah say READ QURAN don’t worry about translation, ITS THEE ALLAH HAS PROTECTED THE WORDS OF QURAN, and the translations.

Verify the translator DONT verify Quran.

There has been very immense misconceptions about Quran translations. Please don’t get confuse. Different translations of ONE word does not change the meaning unless the word itself changes.

    For example:

Word “Rub” translate into 5000 different languages it holds its same meaning unless word “Rub” changes to “Abb” that changes the meaning.

    Rub means Allah

    Abb means Father.

    Hope this helps.

Read English translations. Translate English translations into Urdu. you won’t be confuse. If you read just urdu translation there is word used “sazza” in English translation word used “discipline” translate discipline in Urdu.

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially. And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with. And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, ˹if they persist,˺ do not share their beds, ˹but if they still persist,˺ then discipline them ˹gently˺. But if they change their ways, do not be unjust to them. Surely Allah is Most High, All-Great. (34)

    • Sahih International:

Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance – [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. (34)

A different translation of a single word makes a world of a difference in the meaning of the Quran. Please refer to the link above for Ghamidi sahab’s principles of understanding the Quran.

I understand your point, you are referring to world of difference in meaning of the Quran (verse). This can be surely explained but difficult on this platform Perhaps live talk will be more feasible.

My point was how Allah has protected Quran and its translations. I am sure Ghamidi principles of understanding Quran is very helpful and in great details as I read them, before experiencing my concern in reply. This material is great for academic personals at advanced level. I was expressing my feedback briefly for any common man who has confusion regarding translations.

There’s no divine protection for translations of the Quran. This is evident from the fact that a few translations are either inadequate or even plain wrong.

One can disagree with certain principles, however, they should be understood even by common people. This is required so that they can learn from those translations that attempt to adequately convey God’s message.

Excellently explained. From your perspective you are taking translations of verse. In my perspective I m taking translations of words.

    For example:

    I want glass of ‘water’.

    I want glass of ‘pani’

    I want glass of ‘Agua’

    I want glass of ‘l’eau’

Word “water” has been translated into

English, Urdu, Spanish, French. The word “water” is protected.

When I say “ I want glass of ‘fire’ the word has changed, since it’s changed I need to make changes in whole sentence. It would be : I want to start a fire.

Example 2: Divine protection of translations. Correct doesn’t have or, need to be. In the universe of Quran there no less, no more, straight and simple.

I have glass of water I securely put that glass into locked case placed it safely. I say the glass is fully, completely, secure and safe. Do I need to say the glass and the water inside this glass is fully and completely secured? Automatically the water in that glass in secured.

One can disagree on certain principles. Correct! if the principles were different

Quran has only one principal and it’s been a same principal. We can translate principal into different languages and ways but principal itself doesn’t change.

Brother Muhammad. Thank you for a great perspective. I agree with both perspectives.

In this case, a meaning of correct word makes a huge difference. One translation allows lightly beating a wife as a last resort to save marriage while the other meaning say to abandon her or leave her. Not only a word but even a comma can make a huge difference. A common example given is..

      اٹھو ، نہ بیٹھو

      اٹھو نہ, بیٹھو

On the other hand a person looking at a holistic meaning of Quran, when presented with two meanings as to whether abandon wife or beat her would know that beating or abandoning both are meant as a last resort to maintain marriage. If beating or abandoning will make things worse, then there is no need for either. Just divorce her at that point. Neither action will go against the spirit of the message.

AlthOugh I agree with Faisal that Quran in original language is protected, but perhaps translation is not. Still righteous people and those who put effort into properly understanding Quran may not go wrong. It is Allah’s responsibility to guide them.
