I am not clear what Jews did wrong by asking Moses that they are tired of eating the same food (Munn and Salva) and they want Garlic and Onion. This is human nature that we get tired of eating the same thing no matter how good it is. They simply asked for something different. Was it that they were too lazy to put any effort and didn’t want to work and expected Allah to provide these things by a miracle?

Secondly, what did they do wrong by asking specifics of the cow to sacrifice in the name of Allah. Didn’t they just want to do it right by sacrificing the exact cow Allah wants?

This is mentioned in book of Numbers, Jews were out of Egypt in Sinai desert and were given Mann and Salwa

This is miraculous cuz in this world Allah doesn’t provide anything without toiling for it. Jews were given this in order to free them from the struggle to find food in the desert and to concentrate on learning their deen from Musa AS. This event is probably after the event of the calf worship. Whatever the chronology, the idea is free food to spare time to learn deen but they wanted satisfaction of their tongues than their hearts

The second incident is about attitude of Jews to find excuses not to follow simple commands and over questioning

Allah asked to sacrifice a cow, any cow, but they made the matter worst. A servants duty is to obey lord’s commands and not to argue under the disguise of not understanding of to confirm. It was a simple command, if Allah didn’t specify then just obey!

Allah told Muslims also to avoid over questioning

O believers! Do not ask about any matter which, if made clear to you, may disturb you. But if you inquire about what is being revealed in the Quran, it will be made clear to you. Allah has forgiven what was done ˹in the past˺.1 And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most forebearing

Some people before you asked such questions then denied their answers 05:101-102

I think It was their attitude. Wording shows their rudeness. They should make dua to Allah themselves and could make some effort but they arrogantly asked Prophet Musa MPH to ask ربك, your Rab. It was not only one time. They did that every time when they were ordered to do anything.
For the cow Allah tells the reason at the end of Ayah 71. .فَذَبَحُوهَا وَمَا كَادُوا يَفْعَلُونَ
اِس طرح اُنھوں نے اُس کو ذبح کیا اور لگتا نہ تھا کہ وہ یہ کریں گے۔
so they sacrificed her, though they had not the mind to do (it).

The issue highlighted in Quran verse 2:61 regarding the Jews asking for a variety in their food is about not appreciating the situation. There’s no harm in asking God for anything that one likes, however, everything has a proper time and place. Had they been appreciative of the freedom that God had granted them, along with the ease that right in the middle of a desert they were given food without any effort, they would have been deeply thankful to God. Instead they chose to be ungrateful.

From the incident of the cow in Quran verses 2:67-71, it’s clear that they did not really intend to obey God’s command of sacrificing the cow, and therefore kept on asking for more and more details.

Both of these incidents actually show that they had not truly believed.
