  • Why Animals Are Inflicted With Calamities?

I was sitting at my uncle’s farm the other day where I noticed something interesting. The workers on his farm were trimming the horns of buffaloes. When I inquired why they were doing so, they replied so that the horns don’t overgrow into the buffalo’s skull and cause it damage (later he showed me photos of buffalo that was suffering from overgrown horns)

I am still curious about what I witnessed. It never occurred to me before that a creature could be in need of some external help to conduct its affairs, since God has designed each creature so well that there arises no need of external intervention (snakes get new skin on their own etc). For humans it is understandable that we will be inflicted with diseases as this world is for test and trails. But what is the underlying reason behind animals facing such extraordinary conditions and diseases (like overgrown horns). Could it be God’s scheme to establish a bond of kindness and understanding between us and our fellow creatures who inhabit this planet by making some animals dependent upon humans (in a very narrow capacity like trimming cattle horns, forging horseshoes for horses etc)?

Similarly, some animals are killed at their birth by their cannibalistic parents.

Thank you, Faisal bhai! I found your reply more appealing (in another thread regarding animals) where you elaborated that there are many things of this world that would remain a mystery for us until the next world. We have only been informed about the aspects of this world that allow us to prepare for the day of judgement.

Animals were there even before humans on the planet Earth. They were facing all kinds of survival challenges. Many of the species could not survive and got extinct for example Neanderthals, Dinosaurs etc.

We all know humans have gained the capacity to kill themselves in war conflicts, pandemics with lab leaked pathogens and climate change disasters. However, chances are life on Earth will continue even after human extinct from Earth.

Therefore, it’s hard to claim that the animals and other resources on Earth were created only for human use and service.

A more plausible explanation to your question could be as follows:

Whatever God has created is for His own creation goals. He is constantly expanding and shaping up His universe towards a predetermined and well thought of design. God is doing it through gradual increments or evolution process. Everything He has created has a role to play towards the goals of God. All of His creations are only a means to the end Goals. Humans are also a means to the end goals. He owns His creation so He can use them in whatever way He likes. He is not answerable to anyone. Anything that comes in the way of trimming and shaping being done by the Natural laws is destroyed or damaged as nothing is more important than the goals.

Whenever humans or animals come in the way of law of nature they are destroyed. Since the dinosaurs had no idea of the right way to run to survive the natural calamity they ended up running in the wrong direction and got extinct.

Similarly the buffalos are coming in the way of the natural law thats causing their horns to over grow. Humans can figure out the causes and manage to get out of the way and have avoided getting extinct so far.

God has made His own rules to compensate and indemnify His creations who suffer pain in His giant factory of creation. So the animals who encounter sufferings will get their rewards i hope. But i am not sure how. I will post a separate question if there will be animals in jannah.
