  • Can A Muslim Call A Sportsman A God Of Cricket?

Posted by Someone Concerned on October 30, 2021 at 12:37 pm

I have heard some Muslim friends calling one of the cricket players calling “God of cricket” Nauzubillah. It disturbs me to listen to this and when I tried to convince them to not say it they said Allah knows our intentions. Please provide some guidance in regards to if it is okay to say something like this or would this come in shirk’s category? Thanks.

In addition to the more common meaning of God (with a capital G), the word god can also mean to refer to a person of great value or someone who is highly admired. When used in that meaning there’s no harm in it.
