  • Can Zakat Be Deducted From Tax Paid From Two Years Ago?

Posted by Alina Shafqat on November 2, 2021 at 1:18 am

I paid a huge tax around 2.5 lac rupees 2 years ago and zakat (which is around 40-50 thousand rupees) the very same year. I just saw a video of sir Ghamidi explaining that zakat can be deducted from the tax paid. Now, can i deduct zakat amount from the tax paid 2 years ago or should i forgo that tax and pay zakat again this year ? (I was unaware at that time that zakat can be deducted from tax). What is the religious take on this matter?

Yes, excess tax paid can be carried forward to next year as an adjustment against next year’s zakat liability.
