  • Can Good Deeds And Bad Deeds Go Hand In Hand?

Posted by Sarim Rehan on November 7, 2021 at 1:31 pm

I’ve heard from multiple reputable scholars telling that the prayers and other acts of worship will not be accepted if one doesn’t abstain doing certain sin in any capacity. If that’s the case then what’s the point of the weighing of Good and Bad deeds on the day of judgement? For eg, If a person is a diligent prayer but also tells lies, swear often and is even indulged in fornication activities, so is his prayers being accepted in the state that he is or is it useless until he gives up on his bad deeds?

It is not just the numbers of good and bad deeds to be weighed to judge one deserves Jannah or Jahannam. It is in fact the attitude which will determine one’s fate. The rebellious attitude finds no forgiveness from God and it appears mostly in big sins like fornication, bearing a false witness etc. Rebels’ good deeds will have no weight in the hereafter and this is what it means that prayers or good deeds are not accepted. Now who is rebel and whose good deeds are going to wasted is the knowledge with God.

So is being Rebellious implies that God’s slave do sins just for the sake of disobedience of God? or is it one who does sins repeatedly thinking God is merciful?

Isn’t it only shirk that can ruin your good deeds? Haven’t heard of any other sin have any effect on good deeds. Will appreciate if anyone can share anything from Quran or Hadith.

Two types of rebellious attitude are arrogance (knowingly disobeying God) and insistence on being ignorance (this also is a kind of arrogance thus rebellious attitude) both are responsible for earning the wrath of God. such people were not be forgiven.

however, if a person has adopted a mistaken knowledge of God, e.g. His Being so merciful that He will not care about justice, then his understanding needs to be corrected. however, he should know where he adopted this misunderstanding from. people will be given chance to put up their excuses and God will decide what to do with them.

Brother Wadood, in Quran every rebellious behaviour has been treated the same. see for example the verse on murderer 4:93 and transgressor of the ordinance of God 4:13
