Ghamidi sb in a lecture talked about how the matter is devoid of irada and ikhtiyaar so the world cannot be self explanatory. A higher power (God) directed the whole process of creation in a way that this world came into existence. I want to ask how is matter devoid of irada? We know that fire has the property to burn and can burn. Water has the ability to cool down things and extinguish fire. So how exactly is matter lacking irada/will? They do stuff and each has unique properties. Together, they can create.

So can fire and water stop burning or flooding respectively at will?

If yes, then I agree with you. Matter can create more matter on its own. Fire and water require direction via chemical processes. Either we say it happened by chance or by the hand of the creator.

By chance means we r assuming that each chemical reaction in the cycle of creation of 1 atom or molecule happened purely by chance/coincidence. U can imagine how many random chances u have to believe. God or creator is a much simpler explanation

If I didn’t understand your question and you meant something else by irada/ ikhtiyar then plz elaborate

Thank you Faraz for replying. You got the question right. I want to further elaborate that isn’t creation an intrinsic property of matter itself? The way forces (electromagnetic, gravitational) act on diff elements to combine them into new elements who then follow their natural laws (also stemming from their own self like gravity comes from mass) and evolve over time into new forms? What’s your opinion on this @UmerQureshi @faisalharoon bhai.

It depends on our vision of how God acts upon His creations. One model of understanding is with the emphasis on the Omniscient God, similar to what you said, that God eternally kick-started the whole process of cosmos to exist and set up the natural laws to keep them running. Being Omniscient, He knows the actions of His creations and answers our prayers from eternity. And therefore, He’s not subject to change.

The other view is with the emphasis on the Omnipotent God, that every second of our existence, God is creating and sustaining our reality. Natural laws are mere conceptualization of human’s observation of the divine actions unto His creations. Although these divine actions entail patterns (i.e. sunna), He’s not limited to His “sunna”. With His omnipotence, He can act anything at His will in the manner befitting to His sublime majesty and wisdom.
