In Quran Allah says that all good names belong to him and we can call him by any good name.
Any name in any language which is used for the creator and sustainer of the world can be taken as the name of Allah.
God is the name given in the same way as is the name of ishwar gievn. Even Allah is made out of Ilah which means god. Al is added to it to make it The God.
