    Asalamualaikum,

As a student, I have to spends lots of time in the anatomy lab. During dissections, we will sometimes have to work with the bladder, which contains urine. And it isn’t unlikely for the bladder to leak, which will inevitably cause the rest of the specimen to be contaminated with urine to some degree. How should I approach this situation to maintain purity? I understand that I should be certain that I have touched urine, but in this case there really is no doubt that you will be in contact with urine to some degree, even if it cannot be noticed, right?

    Just wash your hands afterwards.

      JazakAllah Dr. Faisal Haroon.

But the problem is that the fluid squirts around sometimes. When you move around organs and stuff.

And then do I have to be cautious of not touching myself with the gloves at all times?

In that case you can take a shower. I don’t think that between washing hands and taking a shower you have any other options. Use your best judgment to decide in what scenario which one would suffice.

      JazakAllah Mr. Faisal Haroon,

So let’s say my plan of action is to just take a shower and throw any clothes that I think were contaminated into the washing machine. In this case, I would be overanalyzing if I start washing the jacket I wear when I’m heading back home, or my bag as well, right?

I would wash these other articles if I could see visible stains of impurity on them, or if I was absolutely sure that they were exposed to impurities even if I could not see the stains.

At the end of the day, we have to understand that nothing that we as humans do can ever be perfect, however we simply have to reasonably decide on such issues with sincerity without unnecessarily putting ourselves through undue difficulty.

      JazakAllah Mr. Faisal Haroon,

Okay, this makes a lot of sense! It’s the same principles Mr. Umer Qureshi and Dr. Irfan Shahzad mentioned.

I think I’m better off heading to the lab without a jacket then since my mom doesn’t want it being washed. Sweat Smile

You can also consider disposable lab coats such as this Uline Knit Cuff Lab Coat.

This is a really good idea – I will look into it!

      JazakAllah!

      Asalamualaikum Mr. Faisal Haroon,

I just want to clarify a point you made. You said that “I would wash these other articles . . . if I was absolutely sure that they were exposed to impurities even if I could not see the stains.”

With Mr. Umer Qureshi, I discussed that if an impurity comes into contact with clothing or an object, yet the impurity is not detectable on these things then it is considered to be microscopic and not something that warrants cleaning. Because in this case, it would be too much hardship to clean up, in addition to the fact that the impurity is not present at an observable level and is therefore minute.

And so I was wondering if there is a certain way that I should interpret your statement based on this interpretation?

      JazakAllah
