    Assalamualaikum

What does Ghamidi sahab says about matam and noha and on what evidences? Like one can say that it’s a way to express grief (izhaar e afsoos) on the dead one?

There’s no prohibition on expressing grief in a natural way, but since transgression in mourning (‘noha’, ‘matam’ and ‘bain’) can result in non-sensical and sometimes blasphemous utterances, therefore, the Prophet (sws) recommended three day mourning period for the dead ones and forbade to wail loudly and beat one’s head and face on as it goes against the Principle of Sabar (‘patience‘) as required in Quran, and also as a reminder that such practices have never been a part of Deen-e-Ibrahimi which entails:

    – Bathing a dead body,

    – Enshrouding a dead body in coffin cloth,

    – The funeral prayer,

    – And Burial.
