“[Tell them that they should not trust their deities;] on that day, except those who fear God all friends shall become foes of one another.”
These friends are the accomplice against Islam and the prophet like disbelievers and devil as told in this verse of the same sura
There is no doubt that these devils stop such people from the path of God and they think on their part that they are going in the right direction.
Until finally when each person of this type comes to Us, he will say to his devil: “Would that the distance of both borders of the East was between you and me! [41] So, what an evil companion would he be! (36)

This verse is pointing toward the day of judgement that after seeing all the warnings of the Prophets in their true form on the day of judgement, all their deities and people themselves (i.e. Kuffaar) will disown eachother and turn against eachother.
