I have few questions regarding marriage with someone who is not so religious.

    1) Can a muslim marry to someone who claims to be a muslim but is not so religious?. I know it is highly recommended to marry a religious person, but the question is regarding permissiblity.

    2) what if a couple is already married, but later it turns out that one of them is not so religious, or leaves Islam, or whatever, so what should the other person do in this case? Can he/she continue his/her marriage?.

Islam doesn’t oblige a person to not to marry or terminate a marriage bond for the spouse is not so religious. It is the person who has to decide in the light of his or her preferences. Here it needs to define what is to be religious. If a person fulfills only obligatory duties as a Muslims and abstain from haram, he is religious enough for Islam. To adopt a perticular countenance or dress to be labelled as religious has nothing to do with Islam.

If a person is a Muslim there is always hope that he or she will care for his or her religious duties sooner or later if reminded widely and sympathetically. Same goes for the one who left Islam after marriage, he or she may revert to Islam. However, the Muslim spouse may leave his or her partner if she or he deems it not tolerable to stay with a person who is neglectful of of religion or has forsaken it.

      Thank you sir .

So, it is a person who will decide , and Islam doesn’t oblige a person to not to marry or terminate a marriage bond in such cases.
