    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

And so We have placed in every society the most wicked to conspire in it. Yet they plot only against themselves, but they fail to perceive it.

    Al-An’am, Ayah 123

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

And so We have made for every prophet enemies—devilish humans and jinn—whispering to one another with elegant words of deception. Had it been your Lord’s Will, they would not have done such a thing. So leave them and their deceit,

    Al-An’am, Ayah 112

    Assalam-o-Alaikam:

I think the purpose of humans on this Earth is to go through the test. The test can only be valid if there was devil and his followers trying to misguide people. I think the devil, its followers and free will is by design to create true test environment.

These verses are referring to God’s scheme of tests and trials where freewill has been given to every human and jinn to either choose to become a devil or choose to become a righteous creation of God. And this process is governed under law of guidance and error also mentioned in Quran (Law of Guidance and Error: Discussion 22255)

In the Quran, we find certain acts being attributed to God; however, the real objective in this regard is not the attribution of these acts, it is their attribution to certain laws and principles on the basis of which these acts materialize. Because these laws and principles have been set by the Almighty, He has attributed the acts which emanate on the basis of these laws and principles to Himself at certain places in the Quran. (And when they deviated [from the truth], God led away their hearts [from the truth], (Quran 61:5)) and (We will turn away their hearts and eyes [from the truth], (Quran 6:110)). On such instances, the Quran also refers to the principle on the basis of which a certain act emanates. These insinuations are meant to direct the attention of the reader on the factual reality so that the apparent meaning of the words does not create any misconception in his mind. Regarding verses asked in the question, it is mentioned in Quran 6:111But [in reality] most of them are afflicted with ignorance” AND in Quran 6:122Can the person who was dead, We raised him to life, and gave him a light with which he is walking among people, be similar to a person who is in darkness from which he can never emerge?” [(referring to the darkness of conjecture and speculation (6:116) and of desires and innovations (6:119)]
