  • Can We Talk/Pray To Allah Directly 1on1?

    Can we do this or is this a Sufi concept that shouldn’t be practised? I am asking in regards to one praying to Allah as of Allah is directly listen to him and he is in full attention of Allah in a live, real time way. And he imagines that he is being listened to by Allah.

    If we believe in the hai, then he is alive and connected, and if we believe he is sami, then he hears us as well, infact if we believe that we are directly guidable, then the direct connection is what needs to be established. If you look at the iqaam as Salah, and ponder on the meaning of iqaam, from the surah e kahf, where Moosa does the iqaam of the jidar that was falling down, the meaning of iqaam becomes clear, i.e. restoration, as Moosa restores or rectifies the wall that was falling down. Now if you rectify or iqaam your Salah, which in Arabic means connection, then you are restoring your lost connection to Allah when you iqaam your Salah.

      I guess the word Iqaam should be interpreted and understood in its context and not by finding one meaning in some other Surah which occurs in an entirely different context and then applying that meaning to Iqaam in the other chapter.

      I guess this is the simplest rule of language and always works like that universally.

      You are absolutely right, the word has to be considered in its entirety of occurrence in the Quran, and if we search by the jizr of iqaama then Q-Wa-Ma gives us 281 counts, after removing the meaning of Qaum which refers to people. So lets consider 10 of those occurrences and see how the definition obtained from surah kahf works.

      2:213: Traditional translation from Saheeh Intl. “And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.”

      Using the new meaning of the jizr Q-Wa-Ma “and Allah guides to the self-correcting (rectifying) methodology whoever wills to be guided!”

      3:39: Saheeh Intl “So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber”

      Using the new meaning of both Q-Wa-Ma and Salah “And the angels called upon him, while he was (engaged in) rectifying his connection to God in the Chamber”

      3:55: Saheeh Intl “when Allah said, “O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection.”

      Using the new meaning of Q-Wa-Ma (note Qiyama is from the root word Q-Wa-Ma and not from Q-Ya-Ma) the meaning becomes “When Allah said: O Eissa, I am recompensing you, and elevating you to me, and ridding you of those who rejected, and establishing those who followed you above those who rejected until the “time of” (i.e. yaum) “Rectification (of the outlook)(i.e.Qiyama)”.

      4:175 Saheeh Intl “and guide them to Himself on a straight path”

      Using the new meaning of Q-Wa-Ma” derived from Surah-e-Kahf “and shall guide them towards him a methodology of rectification (self-correction)”.

      There are 276 occurrences of this where this meaning will fit with slight variations in accordance with the sentences albeith where it is used to refer to standing or sometimes people, as the same jizr in Arabic can have multiple meanings.I am attaching the spreadsheet with the 276 references in case you want to try this exercise Grinning.

    I believe it is all about establishing a direct connection, once your connection is established, you are in communication for your salah and your dua.

    Assalam-o-Alaikam: I am a little confused with the question. I thought having direct connection and considering Allah is present in front of us, everywhere, watching us, listening to us, knows what we are thinking, knows our past present and future… I thought that was the only way to pray. To my understanding. How else would someone pray? Isn’t this our fundamental belief?

      To me direct connection to Allah means that his book is accessible to me directly, and I dont need someone else to bring and explain his message to me. Since his book Quran is where I can find what he has said, so if I connect with Quran directly, and toil and try to understand what he has said, it will start to open up to me based on my worldview. So prayer and Qunoot for us should be via the Quran.

      Yes, you are right but I asked in a more exclusive way, like when one can feel the presence/connection established.
