    Assalamualaikum,

Hello there, my question is that i went through the videos on Veil/Parda on the 23 questions series.

As ghamidi Sahab explained that in Surah Ahzab, the guidance was regarding regarding special situation where prophet’s house was made a target by the hypocrite. When the ayat 59 came, ghamidi Sahab explained it that this ayat is not regarding Parda but as a precautionary measure during this time of issue. But here we see the that other Muslim women are also being addressed and further the Ayah says that it is so that their identity is made and they aren’t teased. Now as i understood, ghamidi Sahab explained that munafiqoon used to look for chances to go and talk and tease the prophet’s household women or those of his close aids’, when they would go for nature’s call in dawn or sunset time. the hypocrites would give excuses like “ohh i could not see that it’s prophet’s household women, i thought it was etc etc’s woman and i approached them” and further the ayat explains that this measure was given so that their identity is prominent. Now the question arises as this ayat gives measure to prophet’s wife and other women as well, so wouldn’t it finish their identity all together instead of maintaining it?? As other women are also addressed in it, then all women of Muslims including that of hidden hypocrite would also wear jilbaab over them, hence instead of making prophet’s household women prominent and safe from traps of hypocrite approaching them, wouldn’t it give them a further one step ahead excuse that “ohh we couldn’t recognize it’s them, we thought it was our women, since they too were wearing jilbaab” so apparently it would make there excuse more stronger in this sense?, But on the other hand if we look at Maududi sahab’s version of understanding that it is because people would know that they are honored women and hence all those wanting to get some lust would be made clear that this woman is even way farther for them, and in this sense they will maintain there identity of honorable and respectable women. In this case wouldn’t maintaining identity thing make Maududi sahab’s version stronger?

To make a frank contact with a woman (lady) in open was hard or as bad as it is in any civilised society but it is easy if the woman is a maid or prostitute. Wearing Jalbaab indicates that the woman is a lady not a maid or prostitute. the slave girls did not wear Hijab.

Although this kind of garment was being used by women already, when they went outside home, but it was a made a sign by God to warn the hypocrites. What Mawlana said finds its place in the interpretation of Ghamidi saheb. The only difference is that Mawlana makes it a permanent feature in the name of parda regardless of the situation of harassment or mischief. While Ghamidi saheb relates it with the situation. Since that situation was common for all women then, so the injunction was given to all women at that time.

@irfan76 Ohhh so this ayat was not revealed for the bonds women or maids working at someone else’s house, in the society? They were not bound by it?

But again a question arises that as the maid working there would also be some other Muslim’s wife or sister then wouldn’t they come into category of women of the Muslim folk?

This was the social classification and still it exists one way or the other. For the problem at hand, the immediate solution was given and that was for Muslim ladies. As for maids and the slave girls, other measures were introduced to elevate their condition, treatment with them and for their ethical training. No executive order could change the social behaviour towards them nor could the slave girls be elevated morally to behave themselves in an honorable manner, then.
