AoA. My parents named me ABDUL HARIS and now it is my registered CNIC name. Many of my fellows and relatives say that this is a SHIRKIYA name. I am very worried because now at the age of 35 it is almost impossible to change it on every single document. Plz help

As far as I know, Haris means guardian or protector. Since those are attributes of God, there’s no polytheism in the name Abdul Haris.

If it is spelled حارس it means protector, if it is حارث it means ploughman or cultivator. The name عبد الحارث seems awkward, except that we take حارث an attribute of God who is the actual cultivator as He says in Quran:

    أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ

Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? (56: 64)

In this case, you need not to change it in papers, but better let yourself be called Haris instead of Abul Haris, to avoid any contention.
